Further advice for people in the Shielding category

People who were shielding in the last lockdown are advised by the government to stay at home. This includes 'people with cancers of the blood or bone marrow such as leukaemia, lymphoma or myeloma who are at any stage of treatment'.

They advise you go out just for exercise and medical appointments. You are strongly advised to work from home and if you can't, then not to work during lockdown. If you have new symptoms (whether or not you've been diagnosed with blood cancer before or not please contact your GP without delay.

Guidance on shielding and protecting people who are clinically extremely vulnerable from COVID-19

The government's list includes:

  • people with cancers of the blood or bone marrow such as leukaemia, lymphoma or myeloma who are at any stage of treatment
  • people having immunotherapy or other continuing antibody treatments for cancer
  • people having other targeted cancer treatments that can affect the immune system, such as protein kinase inhibitors or PARP inhibitors
  • people who have had bone marrow or stem cell transplants in the last 6 months or who are still taking immunosuppression drugs
  • This is not an exhaustive list and you should consult the official guidance and contact your GP or consultant if you are unsure.
